Moby Dick

Programme Note

The motif of the piece is Moby Dick, the classic American novel by Herman Melville describing the devastating collision between a human being and God via Captain Ahab and the great White Whale. In addition, the novel raises questions about human will and tenacity. Although Moby Dick is a mysterious being of enormous and potent force, it remains indifferent to the struggles and conflicts of the humans pursuing it and can be considered neither good nor evil.

In my work, I expressed the conflict between these two beings and the human desire to challenge divine dignity and surpass limitations. Similar to humans, musical instruments feature their unique natures and limits. However, they are able to discover new roles and characters by performing together with other instruments and making trials at advancing toward a new realm beyond the boundaries of their nature through electronic music.
